AXA IM Taps McDonald To Lead Sustainable Investing At Rosenberg Unit

Jul 12 2017 | 9:37pm ET

The Rosenberg equities unit of AXA Investment Managers has promoted Kathryn McDonald, previously the company’s director of investment strategy, to the position of head of sustainable investing.

The position, which is new, is part of AXA IM’s commitment to integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into all of AXA IM Rosenberg Equities’ portfolios by the end of 2017, the company said in a statement.

AXA IM’s Rosenberg Equities team will work with AXA IM’s responsible investment personnel to leverage their quantitative and qualitative ESG insights and systematically include these in portfolio construction. AXA IM Rosenberg Equities has been managing portfolios that take into account ESG factors since the mid-1990s, starting with a focus on exclusions which then developed into true integration of ESG portfolios focused as much on upside potential as risk mitigation.

McDonald has more than 20 years of experience in the asset management field. She joined AXA IM in 1999 and was most recently director of investment strategy. Previous roles included senior strategist for emerging markets and Asia ex-Japan and head of investments for Australia/New Zealand. Prior to joining AXA IM, Kathryn was a consultant with MSCI Barra.

Paris-based AXA IM managed more than €747 billion as at March 31, 2017 from 21 offices in over 60 countries. The company’s Rosenberg equities unit has $19 billion in AUM deployed across primarily systematic equity strategies. AXA IM is part of the AXA Group, one of the largest financial services businesses in the world.
