General Atlantic Taps Dipp, Slavitt For Key Healthcare Sector Roles

Global private equity company General Atlantic has named ex-Longwood executive Dr. Michelle Dipp as a managing director and former Centers For Medicare & Medicaid Services Acting Administrator Andrew Slavitt as a special advisor. 

In her new role, Dipp be a senior member of the firm’s Global Healthcare team and will focus on biopharma and life sciences investments, the company said. She will be based in New York. 

Previously, Dipp was co-founder and general partner of healthcare VC company Longwood Fund. Beforehand, she served as GlaxoSmithKline’s senior vice president of the Centre of Excellence for External Drug Discovery, GSK’s global business development group. Prior to GSK, Dr. Dipp served as VP of corporate development of Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biotechnology company, which was acquired by GSK. She is a member of the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders group.

Slavitt joins Global Atlantic as a special advisor and will bring a special focus on healthcare investments in underserved populations, the company added. He served as Acting Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services under President Obama from 2015 through 2017. In this role, Slavitt spearheaded programs that provided access to quality healthcare for 140 million Americans, including Medicaid, Medicare, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Health Insurance Marketplace.

From 2003 to 2013, Slavitt worked at UnitedHealth Group, eventually serving as the Group EVP for the company’s Optum subsidiary, where he oversaw the delivery of clinical, technological, and operational solutions to healthcare clients and consumers. Beforehand, Slavitt founded and served as CEO of HealthAllies, a VC-backed consumer healthcare company acquired by UnitedHealth Group in 2003. Prior to HealthAllies, he was a consultant with McKinsey & Company and an investment banker with Goldman Sachs.
